Alicia Myles Sheares
Sociology Ph.D. student - University of California, Berkeley
I am a sociology Ph.D. candidate at the University of California, Berkeley, focusing on the sociology of race, immigration, work, and geography. My dissertation explores Black tech entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley and Atlanta. Other research projects include how race and ethnicity influenced attitudes towards immigrants, both in the workplace and in society at large. I am a mixed-methods researcher, comfortable conducting surveys, multi-level modeling, interviews, and participant observation.
I have a B.A. from Spelman College, an MSc from the University of Oxford, and an M.A. from the University of California, Berkeley. I also completed a two-year Fulbright Fellowship in Pernambuco, Brazil.
