Alicia Myles Sheares, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor in Management, Science, and Engineering at Stanford University.

My work focuses on issues of racial and ethnic belonging, particularly in the context of elite markets and occupations. To that end, I ask how race and racism, as well as immigration, shape the way that organizational fields are developed and, consequently, how minority actors navigate this terrain. I center these issues first within the context of elite technology markets, and second, in relation to politics and immigration. My current project explores the experiences of underrepresented founders of color, including how they understand racial inequality within the sector and the strategies they deploy to circumvent these challenges.

I have a B.A. from Spelman College, an MSc from the University of Oxford, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. I am a former UC PPFP Fellow and I also completed a two-year Fulbright Fellowship in Pernambuco, Brazil.
